Hello Everyone and welcome to Vania Wars! I hope you are here because you’ve read my book (or are about to) and have completed your own version of the Vania Beauty Spread and are ready to post your efforts here to share and get feedback from other Real Retouching Alumni. I expect everyone will add their own special touch to the image and use their own color palette as I suggested in the book. We tried our very best to make the Vania Wars  page fun and interactive. You can even scroll over the image to zoom and see details such as skin, hair, eye and lip work. Please leave constructive comments and post only images from Real Retouching (no retouched photos of your Grandma!) Vote on your favorite spreads and see how well your own spread does with the community.

Due to the nature of the beast, the color of the images inside the book leave something to be desired to say the least, so please download my high resolution file(s) (.ZIP files, approx. 122MB) for your color reference… links are located on the left in the grey bar below.

When you’re done retouching and ready to post your own images, please follow these suggestions:

  1. Save a copy.  We don’t want any accidental saves and lose our work!
  2. Flatten your work.
  3. Remove all guides, all working paths in the Paths palette and any alpha channels in the Channels palette.
  4. Convert your image to RGB ( Edit > Convert to Profile… ). On most occasions I use ColorMatch, and the Vania samples by me are in ColorMatch.  Use that profile if you want to compare relative colors.  Otherwise, if color is not an issue, any RGB color profile is fine (most web graphics are in sRGB).
  5. Resize your image to 50% it’s original size.  Go to Image > Image Size… in the top half, change the units to percentage and the size to 50 (for 50%).  Should measure 4853 x 2008 pixels.
  6. Save as a JPG.  Mine are at a quality of about 9 which yielded a file of about 2.7MB.  But that’s just for a shorter upload time.
  7. Click the “Submit your image” link in the grey bar below and follow the instructions in the form that pops up.

After uploading is complete, it goes into moderation (…just to make sure nothing inappropriate is being submitted.) You should receive an email as soon as it’s been posted to the site.

If you have any problems with the upload, email me at support@carrienyc.com – which is mainly for any issues with this page of the website.  If you want to contact me personally, you can do that the normal way.

Don’t have the book?  It’s available at bookstores everywhere (distributed soon, if they are not already there) and online at Focal PressElsevier and Amazon.
